Replaced the NOx sensor but the fault keeps returning? Mercedes SCR systems may continue to detect emissions faults if additional issues remain active or the replacement sensor is not operating correctly.
Mercedes NOx sensor faults are commonly caused by internal sensor failure, but repeated NOx faults do not always mean the replacement sensor itself is faulty.
In some cases:
- additional SCR system faults may still be present
- aftermarket NOx sensors may not communicate correctly with the engine control unit
- wiring or connector faults may affect signal operation
- adaptation or reset procedures may not have completed correctly
- software updates may be required following replacement
Mercedes SCR systems continuously compare NOx values and emissions efficiency during driving conditions. If readings remain implausible, the control unit may reactivate the warning even after replacement.
Live diagnostic testing is important to confirm correct NOx sensor operation and overall SCR system performance.
NOx sensors are only one part of the Mercedes SCR emissions system. Replacing the sensor alone may not resolve the fault if additional emissions-related issues remain active.
