Mercedes AdBlue Warning After Replacing NOx Sensor
FAULT CODES
DESCRIPTION

Replaced the NOx sensor but the AdBlue or SCR warning is still active? Mercedes SCR systems rely on multiple components and additional faults or reset procedures may still be preventing the warning from clearing.

COMMON SYMPTOMS & CAUSES
DIAGNOSTIC INSIGHT

Mercedes SCR systems rely on multiple components working together, including NOx sensors, AdBlue dosing, pressure sensors and SCR efficiency monitoring.

Although NOx sensors are a very common failure point, replacing the sensor does not always immediately resolve AdBlue or SCR warnings.

In some cases:

  • additional SCR system faults may still be present
  • adaptations or reset procedures may not have completed correctly
  • aftermarket sensors may not communicate properly with the engine control unit
  • software updates may be required after replacement

NOx sensors are also known to fail relatively frequently on some Mercedes diesel models, particularly as the SCR system ages.

Live diagnostic testing is required to confirm correct sensor operation, SCR efficiency values and successful completion of reset or adaptation procedures.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Replacing a NOx sensor without confirming the root cause of the fault may result in warning messages returning or additional SCR system faults remaining active. Mercedes SCR systems should always be diagnosed as a complete system rather than focusing on a single component.
